ARTIST BIO

Claudio Kirac is a renowned contemporary artist whose work transcends the traditional boundaries of art, embracing a multidisciplinary approach spanning fine art, design, photography, and installation. With over 25 years of experience, Kirac has established himself as a significant figure in the Australian art scene, fusing contemporary and street art. His art is characterised by its vibrance, bold colour palettes, and a distinctive style reflecting a deep connection to both his surroundings and personal experiences.

Kirac was born and raised on the Gold Coast, Queensland, which has significantly influenced his artistic journey. His early exposure to the surf and skate culture, combined with his passion for graphic design, laid the foundation for his unique artistic vision. Over the years, he has developed a versatile practice that seamlessly blends elements of traditional painting with modern digital techniques, exploring the intersection of analogue and digital realms, contemporary art, and popular culture.

Living and creating on the lands of the Kombumerri families of the Yugambeh Language Region, Kirac delves into themes of nostalgia, harmony, memory, and shared experience. His works are a celebration of joy, often manifesting in large-scale murals that transform urban landscapes into vibrant, thought-provoking artworks. These murals, along with his other mixed media creations, embody a sense of equilibrium and hope, blending instinctive use of colour with gestural mark-making. These artworks are a profound testament to the solace found in the creative process, reflecting a vision for a harmonious and balanced future.

Kirac’s contributions to the art world have been widely recognised, with his works held in prestigious collections such as HOTA Home of the Arts, The National Library of Australia, the NYC State Library, and Louis Vuitton Asia Pacific. His most recent accolades include being a finalist in the Harden Landscape Prize 2024, The Darling Portrait Prize 2024, and being named the Jumbled Art Superstar 2024.

Beyond his own creative endeavours, Kirac is committed to mentoring the next generation of artists, sharing his knowledge and passion through workshops and public art projects. His influence extends beyond his personal practice, making him a pivotal figure in the ongoing evolution of contemporary art in Australia.
